If you are longing for country living within commuter distance of Los Angeles, Acton, California has just what you are looking for. This small, residential community is located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains south of Palmdale and about 20 miles northeast of the San Fernando Valley. The Acton real estate market has a rural western theme evidenced by its homes, commercial buildings and historical buildings.
Part of the Acton real estate market consists of mountain homes, which have great views of the valley below. Acton homes in the valley are mainly ranch style and often have equestrian facilities. The locals refer to Acton as the “Beverly Hills” of the area because of the many expensive ranch style homes on large plots of land.
While Acton real estate is rural and western, Acton has a Metrolink commuter rail station that allows residents to work in the city but live in the country. Riders on the Metrolink trains between Palmdale and Santa Clarita often see animals from a Wild Animal Nature Preserve as the train passes by.
Originally a mining area, Acton began to be more of a ranching and farming community in the late 1880s. Mining of Gold, copper and titanium ore continued into the early 1900s. In 1889, Acton’s first hotel and its first saloon, the 49er Bar and Grill opened and it is still open to this day.
